About Me
Everything you need to heal is already within you
I grew up in the South of England and had a very unsafe childhood. In my teenage years my coping mechanisms lead to lot of self sabotaging and potentially dangerous decisions. And so, as soon as I was old enough, I left England because I knew leaving the situation at home was one of the kindest things I could do for myself. This decision led to a 12 year journey around the world in search of escapism, adventure, connection and eventually a safe place to call home; the mountain town of Fernie, British Columbia.
I have had the opportunity of working, living and volunteering in some of the most beautiful places the world has to offer. I feel truly blessed to have lived and learned from all the experiences this journey has presented me. There were moments where I had to dig deep, draw on my resilience and strength as a solo female traveler. Moments of such special connection; the family in Mongolia who treated me like a daughter, all the amazing children in Nepal who taught me the beauty and fragility of life, the many train journeys through China, Russia and India and the stories that were shared, the peace found on the night watch shifts on the yachts when I was the only one awake as far as the eye could see.
I learnt so many lessons on my travels, heard many stories of pain and resilience, learnt humility and inner strength.
Living in Asia was where I was first introduced to Yoga and how I could connect with my body and my breath, and how empowering this can be. This is where my journey with yoga, meditation and the study of Eastern philosophy first started.
Then, on my second journey through India, I took my 200hr yoga teacher training so I could share all that I had learnt in my 10 year practice with yoga with others.
Working on boats, guiding adventure tourism and teaching yoga allowed me to immerse myself in nature, be outside and exploring for a living. Being outside in nature has always been a huge part of my life, barefoot and feeling the wind around me, the infiniteness of the oceans, watching the movement of water, drinking in the colors of nature and listening to her lessons is where I feel most connected.
A few years ago I had to draw on all these life lessons after I was sexually assaulted.
I was left feeling very disconnected and unsafe in my body and unsure of how to continue to navigate life. In the aftermath of the assault I found myself experiencing panic attacks, living in a heightened sympathetic state as well as dealing with triggers and emotional/body hijackings on a regular basis.
Knowing that I had to learn how to connect again with myself, I dove deeper into my yoga and energy studies; Trauma informed yoga, self- regulating techniques, studying the polyvagal theory, forest therapy and connecting back with the wisdom of Mother Nature.
I am now innately drawn to working with people who have been affected by trauma or challenging life events. I had to learn how to breathe again, how to move my body again and how to feel safe. I have a deep and lived understanding of how challenging this can be, but it can be done. We all have the ability to dig deep and heal from the challenges that life presents us.
Let’s work together and create a tool box of skills and practices that you can draw from so that you can live a life of connection, freedom and safety.
